Selling engineering and construction project records
Updated October 2026 · listmydata team
Project records show how designs meet reality: RFIs, change orders, review comments and the calculations behind decisions. Who owns the drawings depends on your contracts, so check those before you list anything.
What buyers want
- RFIs, submittals, change orders and the email around them
- Design review comments, markups and calculation packages
- Daily logs, punch lists and lessons-learned reports
- Standards, checklists and internal design guides
OpenAI's 2025 test of AI on real jobs includes mechanical and industrial engineers and project managers (GDPval). AI data companies pay civil engineers $60 to $125 an hour to flag designs that "pass calculations but would fail in practice" (job listings, 2026). Your project history is full of those lessons. Check before you sell
- Who owns the drawings: under the standard AIA owner-architect agreement (B101), the architect and consultants own their "instruments of service" and the copyright. The owner gets a nonexclusive license to use them for that project only (AIA). Other contracts, especially public and design-build work, may give ownership to the client instead. Read yours. If you're a contractor, the architect's and engineers' drawings usually aren't yours to sell. Your own RFIs, logs and email may be, subject to your contracts.
- Client confidentiality: contracts often protect information the client marked confidential or proprietary. Remove client names and project locations, or leave those projects out.
- Security-sensitive projects: leave out drawings of critical infrastructure, government facilities and building security systems.
Getting your data out
- Procore: "Project Archive" compiles data from Procore tools into one download, emailed when ready. (Procore)
- Autodesk Docs (ACC): Files, then Export, downloads PDF, DWG and RVT files as a zip, up to 200 files or 10 GB at a time. (Autodesk)
- Bluebeam: the Markups List summary exports review comments as CSV, XML or PDF. (Bluebeam)
