Selling chemical manufacturing records
Updated October 2026 · listmydata team
Batch records, formulation notes and QC data show how chemistry actually works at production scale, which textbooks and papers rarely capture. You can license these records while keeping your trade secrets protected. Customer formulas and specifications usually aren't yours to sell.
What buyers want
- Batch records and production history
- Formulation and recipe development notes, including what didn't work
- QC test results, deviation and troubleshooting reports
- Safety reviews and engineers' email about why changes were made
AI data companies pay chemical engineers $65 to $105 an hour to judge proposed reactions and spot the ones that "would fail in the lab" (job listings, 2026). Records of what failed in your plant teach the same lesson. See also expert gigs in science and chemistry.
Check before you sell
- Your trade secrets: you decide what's included. Leave out anything you want to keep secret, or license it only to an approved buyer under a written agreement that limits use and forbids resale. Trade secret protection depends on taking reasonable steps to keep the information secret.
- Customer information: purchase-order terms and supply agreements commonly forbid disclosing anything about the customer and make their drawings and specifications the customer's property. Toll manufacturing and custom formulation records often belong to the customer.
- Employee exposure and medical records: OSHA requires these to be kept for decades. They're also personal records. Never include them.
Getting your data out
- SAP Business One: queries, forms and reports export to Excel.
- Sage X3: use the Import/Export templates (for example, the product template).
- Epicor: saved queries (BAQs) and dashboards export to Excel.
- Paper batch records: scans are fine.
If the export is large or technical, a data export and cleanup service can help.
